If you are looking for a weekend retreat in the mountains and want to spend your time writing, reading and taking long, casual strolls with a breathtaking view than I’ve got some really exciting recommendations for you.
Nestled in the heart of Gangtok, merely a 5 minute walk from the popular MG Road is every book lover’s dream come true. A bookstore and hotel that is run by a family of book lovers, called Bookman’s BnB.
On the ground floor of this building you’ll find Cafe Fiction, a very aesthetic and pleasing cafe with a bookish themed decor and a delicious menu, followed by the very popular and renowned bookstore called Rachna Books located on the second floor. And on the third floor you’ll find the four well appointed rooms that are tastefully decorated for your accommodation.
What makes this place incredible is the host and owner Raman, who welcomes all his guests with a friendly smile and some really cool book recommendations. While the bookstore is closed for outsiders by 7PM, the guests enjoy a special treatment and can hangout much late in the night.
I loved having the bookstore completely to myself and reading and browsing through the insane collection of titles till midnight. We even found a shelf full of signed books which we thought was so so cool. Raman also kept us company and amazed us with his passion for photography and showed us all the vintage cameras that he has been collecting over the time.
Staying at Bookman’s BnB was truly a memorable experience for a booknerd like me but Raman also makes sure you enjoy your experience beyond books and hence will be happy to provide with reliable transport facilities, restaurant recommendations and will be just a call away if you require any assistance.
Honestly guys, if you are a lover of books and are planning to visit Gangtok then you MUST check out this property. You’ll fall in love with the concept just like we did!
BONUS: Also make sure you check out this bookish cafe while you’re there:
Hidden somewhere on the lower MG Marg is this beautiful bookish themed cafe: Bibliotheque.
The collection of books here made me and my friends go a little crazy because we wanted to read everything.
And let’s not forget the stunning view that I could possibly never get bored of. If I had more time on my hands, I’d just sit by that window with a book and a glass of hot chocolate and read all day.
I won’t vouch much for the food because I did not exactly enjoy the waffles that we ordered but who cares guys, the decor won my heart. Such attention to detail. It’s definitely worth visiting when you are in Gangtok.
