Devika Das is an award-winning poet and author with over 5 publications under her name. Her recent book The Mind Game is a self-help book that helps the readers understand and master their emotions to achieve success.
On 14th April, I was invited by Devika to attend her book launch event at the Oxford Bookstore, Kolkata. The event was clubbed with a very important discussion on Mental Health Awareness, along with detailed and researched papers on mental illnesses read by the students of Amity University. It was a long event but extremely informative and revolved around a topic that needs to be talked about more often. The segment I loved the most was when Mansi Poddar, a practicing therapist introduced the audience to psychotherapy, defining the term in two words: “transformative conversations”. Her area of work as she elaborated deals with narrative therapy that moves away from clinical terms and focuses more on externalizing the problem, which simply means, “The person is not the problem. The problem is the problem.” I really liked her approach and her point of view in dealing with mental illnesses. You can find out more about her here.
Devika Das on the other hand was this warm, friendly person who I am really glad to have gotten acquainted with. Her book The Mind Game is an extremely concise book that explains the intricacies of our mind, how our emotions work and how we can control them. From tips on anger management to building up your self-esteem to developing a positive attitude this book deals with it all.
The Book launch was organised in collaboration with Tillotoma Foundation with Devika Das in conversation with Dr. Mahitosh Mandal (Assistant Professor, Department of English, Presidency University), Poorna Banerjee (Food and Lifestyle Blogger), Mansi Poddar (Founder of Mansi Therapy) and Soham Das (Director, Tillotoma Foundation). In case you’re interested in listening to the panel discussion, I have linked the video below.
